Cash Seizure Ahead of Elections: As of March 26, 2026, cash amounting to ₹41.98 crore has been confiscated throughout Tamil Nadu. This operation is part of the surveillance efforts by teams stationed in all Assembly constituencies to monitor and curb illegal activities.
In addition to the cash, authorities have seized liquor valued at ₹0.88 crore, narcotics worth ₹7.24 crore, and precious metals estimated at ₹115.10 crore. These figures were disclosed in an official release, highlighting the extensive measures undertaken to ensure fair electoral practices.
The state has deployed 2,169 flying squads and 2,166 static surveillance teams to oversee and prevent the illicit movement of cash, liquor, and other incentives. District-level grievance redressal committees have been set up to facilitate the return of seized items upon proper documentation.
For the upcoming Assembly election on April 23, the Election Commission of India will establish 15 polling stations in high-rise buildings across various constituencies. Meanwhile, the deadline for voter registration ended on March 26, with the final figures on new applications expected soon.
