An earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck Assam on April 4, 2026, with its epicenter located in the district of Karbi Anglong, northeast of Guwahati. The National Center for Seismology reported that the tremor occurred at 8:23 PM, reaching a depth of 10 kilometers.

Despite the earthquake’s occurrence, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, according to local authorities. This incident follows a more severe earthquake of magnitude 5.8 that impacted parts of northern and eastern Afghanistan and western Pakistan just a day earlier, resulting in at least eight fatalities in Afghanistan.

The northeastern region of India, including Assam, is known for its seismic activity due to its location on complex tectonic plate boundaries. Historically, this area has experienced significant earthquakes, prompting ongoing monitoring and preparedness efforts by Indian seismologists.

Looking ahead, authorities continue to assess the situation, ensuring that emergency services are ready to respond if necessary. Residents are advised to stay informed about further developments through official channels.
