A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck central Baluchistan, Pakistan, early Sunday morning, June 29, 2025, at approximately 3:30 AM local time. The quake’s epicenter was located about 60 kilometers north-northeast of Barkhan, a city in the province’s mountainous region, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Tremors were also felt in nearby areas, including Musakhel and parts of Multan, causing brief panic among residents.
No casualties or significant property damage have been reported so far. Local authorities, including the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), have deployed response teams to assess the situation and monitor for potential aftershocks. Baluchistan’s location along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates makes it prone to seismic activity, with past earthquakes in 2005 and 2021 causing significant loss of life and infrastructure damage in the region.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant, as shallow quakes can sometimes lead to aftershocks. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) continues to emphasize preparedness in this seismically active region. Southasiandesk.com will provide updates as more information becomes available.
