In a significant operation, over 52,000 Indians have been repatriated from the Middle East between March 1 and March 7, 2026, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. This move comes in response to rising tensions following recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The Ministry has emphasized the safety of over 10 million Indian nationals residing in the region, highlighting the importance of maintaining energy and trade supply chains. The government is closely monitoring the situation, ensuring the welfare of those stranded during transit or short visits.

With the partial reopening of airspace in West Asia, both Indian and foreign airlines have facilitated the return of Indian nationals. The Ministry reported that 32,107 individuals traveled on Indian carriers, with more flights planned in the coming days.

The Indian government has advised its nationals to adhere to local guidelines and has set up 24×7 helplines through embassies and consulates. A dedicated control room has been established to assist affected individuals and their families, underlining the government’s commitment to their safety.
