Peshawar, 12 August 2025 — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was informed on Monday that more than 55,000 residents have been displaced from Bajaur district due to an ongoing military operation against militants. Provincial Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, Taj Muhammad Afridi, briefed lawmakers on the humanitarian and security situation, saying the government was working to provide shelter, food, and medical aid to affected families.
Purpose of Military Operation
The military offensive, launched last month, is aimed at clearing insurgent hideouts in the region following a surge in attacks on security forces. Afridi noted that relief camps have been established in Lower Dir and Chitral, with special focus on children, women, and elderly evacuees.
Officials said displacement numbers may rise as operations intensify in the mountainous border areas. Lawmakers from the region urged federal and provincial authorities to speed up compensation and rehabilitation measures for families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
The humanitarian crisis underscores the wider security challenges in Pakistan’s tribal districts, where militant activity has persisted despite counterterrorism operations. Authorities stress that the 55,000 Displaced from Bajaur Amid Military Offensive, KP Assembly Told is a stark reminder of the need for both security and humanitarian strategies in the region.
