India-US Trade Negotiations: India and the United States are on the verge of concluding their bilateral trade negotiations, according to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. In a recent interview, Goyal stated that there are no remaining ‘sticky issues’ in the discussions, paving the way for a final agreement.
This announcement comes shortly after India successfully completed negotiations for a free trade agreement with the European Union. Goyal emphasized a strategic shift in India’s trade approach, moving away from protectionism towards engaging with developed economies. He highlighted the importance of international engagement for the future $30 trillion India economy.
The minister noted that past hesitations have been replaced by confident negotiations, with India now negotiating from a position of strength. This new approach has led to significant deals with both the UK and the EU, and similar progress is anticipated with the US.
Looking ahead, Goyal expressed optimism about the timeline for ratification, predicting completion within the year. He also highlighted the potential for increased foreign direct investment and growth in labor-intensive sectors as a result of these agreements.
