On February 3, 2026, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, addressed the sixty-fourth session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64) at the UN Headquarters in New York. Chowdhury called for renewed global solidarity and people-centered policies to advance social development and social justice.
He emphasized the importance of building compassionate societies with equal opportunities for all. Highlighting Bangladesh‘s commitment, Chowdhury detailed the government’s holistic development approach, which includes a strong focus on rural development, women’s empowerment, youth development, social protection, climate resilience, and inclusive finance.
Bangladesh also urged for strengthened international support for debt relief, disaster response, and protection for individuals displaced due to persecution. Chowdhury’s call for action is part of Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts as a member of the Commission for Social Development from 2023 to 2027.
The session, running from February 2 to 10, 2026, serves as a platform for member states to discuss strategies for social development. Bangladesh’s proposals are expected to influence future policy discussions and international cooperation.
