On February 17, 2026, a significant agreement was formalized between the Punjab Police and the National Database and Registration Authority, NADRA to enhance crime control and investigation standards in the province of Punjab, Pakistan. This collaboration aims to leverage technology-driven policing by integrating NADRA’s biometric services with police operations.
The signing ceremony took place at the Central Police Office, attended by Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem and NADRA’s Chief Project Officer Rehman Qamar, along with other senior officials. The agreement was signed by DIG Information Technology Mansoorul Haq Rana and Chief Project Officer Rehman Qamar, representing their respective organizations.
Under this agreement, NADRA will provide the Punjab Police with a range of identity verification services, including fingerprint matching, biometric authentication, and access to Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) records. These services are expected to improve the accuracy and speed of criminal investigations by enabling reliable identification of suspects and reducing delays in verification processes.
The integration of NADRA’s database services is anticipated to assist in tracing proclaimed offenders, confirming detainees’ identities, and facilitating lawful arrests. This move supports broader community policing objectives by enhancing transparency and improving service delivery at police stations through real-time identity verification tools.
Inspector General Abdul Kareem praised the agreement as a strategic step towards strengthening institutional capacity and addressing evolving security challenges through enhanced inter-agency coordination. The implementation of services will proceed in phases, adhering to legal protocols and data protection regulations to ensure secure use of shared information.
