AI Impact Summit: On February 19, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in pivotal discussions with European leaders on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in India. The summit, attended by representatives from 26 European countries, including 11 heads of state or government, focused on leveraging artificial intelligence for inclusive development.

Modi met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to emphasize AI’s transformative potential. The leaders discussed the importance of AI governance and cooperation, with Sánchez highlighting the summit’s role in shaping global AI norms. They agreed on the necessity of AI frameworks that prioritize societal benefits.

The meeting also explored defense industrial collaboration, reviewing progress in the Tata-Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft project in Vadodara. Modi and Sánchez celebrated the 2026 India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and AI, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors.

Key discussions included Spain’s participation in the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and the conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU free trade agreement (FTA), set for EU ratification later this year. European leaders expressed strong support for the FTA, which promises to enhance trade ties between India and the EU.

Modi’s meetings with other European leaders, including Finland’s Petteri Orpo and Estonia’s Alar Karis, further underscored the strategic importance of AI and digital collaboration. The leaders called for enhanced cooperation in quantum computing, 6G, and renewable energy, reflecting a shared commitment to technological advancement.
