Nepal Earthquake: On February 22, 2026, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal’s Koshi province, with the epicenter located in the Ritak area of Sankhuwasabha district. The tremor occurred at 7:31 am and was felt in neighboring districts such as Taplejung and Bhojpur. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage.

Sankhuwasabha District is situated 475 kilometers east of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre confirmed the seismic activity, emphasizing the country’s vulnerability to earthquakes. Nepal ranks 11th among the world’s most earthquake-prone nations.

This event follows a recent 3.9 magnitude earthquake near Bansar of Lamjung district recorded on January 11. Such occurrences highlight the ongoing seismic activity in the region, prompting discussions on earthquake preparedness and infrastructure resilience.

As Nepal continues to experience frequent tremors, authorities are focused on enhancing monitoring systems and public awareness to mitigate potential impacts. Future efforts will likely involve international cooperation and investment in earthquake-resistant construction.
