Canadian PM Carney to Visit India: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit India on February 27, aiming trade expansion and artificial intelligence partnerships. India is recognized as one of Canada’s strongest partners in the Indo-Pacific region, according to an announcement from Carney’s office.
The visit will commence in Mumbai and proceed to New Delhi, where Carney will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions will focus on expanding Canada-India relations, with new initiatives in trade, energy, technology, AI, talent exchange, culture, and defense.
Carney’s visit marks a significant step in renewing bilateral ties, following a reset in relations after his meeting with Modi during the G7 Leaders’ Summit in 2025. The two countries are negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, aiming to double trade to CA$ 70 billion by 2030.
This visit, the first by a Canadian Prime Minister to India in eight years, is expected to solidify the evolving relationship between the two nations. Carney’s trip also includes stops in Australia and Japan, further strengthening Canada’s ties with key Indo-Pacific partners.
