Bangladesh accidents: In February, Bangladesh experienced a tragic loss of 477 lives due to transport accidents across roads, railways, and waterways. The Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity released a detailed report on Friday, documenting 488 incidents that resulted in 1,197 injuries. Road accidents were the most fatal, accounting for 447 deaths and 1,181 injuries from 448 incidents.

The report, signed by General Secretary Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, was compiled from national and regional news sources. It revealed that motorcycle accidents were particularly deadly, with 151 incidents leading to 167 fatalities and 137 injuries. Dhaka Division reported the highest number of road accidents, with 113 incidents causing 115 deaths and 387 injuries, whereas Barisal Division reported the fewest.

The victims included a diverse group of individuals, such as 56 law enforcement personnel, 93 drivers, and 58 students, among others. The data on 687 vehicles involved showed that motorcycles, trucks, and buses were frequently involved in accidents. The analysis also highlighted that run-over incidents and head-on collisions were the most common types of accidents.

The association pointed out several causes for these accidents, including inexperienced transport management and policy weaknesses. They emphasized the need for improved infrastructure, better road signs, and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent future tragedies. As Bangladesh continues to develop, addressing these issues remains crucial for ensuring public safety.
