Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions: On March 4, 2026, Pakistani authorities concluded a significant crackdown on Afghan nationals in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, detaining over 2,000 individuals. This operation, launched on February 27, primarily focused on Peshawar, Nowshera, and Charsadda districts.

According to prosecution sources, cases have been registered under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, with magistrates’ courts ordering judicial remand for those detained. In Peshawar alone, approximately 1,600 Afghans were apprehended, with the remaining arrests occurring in Nowshera and Charsadda.

This crackdown forms part of broader efforts to enforce immigration laws amid ongoing border disputes and the closure of key crossing points such as Torkham. Official sources confirmed the operation’s temporary suspension from March 4 until Eidul Fitr due to logistical challenges and overcrowded detention facilities.

Authorities describe this pause as a temporary administrative measure during the holy month of Ramazan, not a shift in policy. The situation underscores the complexity of managing border security and immigration amid regional tensions.
