Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended congratulations to Mojtaba Khamenei on his appointment as Iran’s new supreme leader, following the death of Ali Khamenei in US and Israeli air strikes on Tehran earlier this month. The announcement was made by Iran’s Assembly of Experts.

In a letter, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Iran. He emphasized the shared interests and the potential for enhanced collaboration between the two nations.

Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment marks a significant shift in Iran’s leadership, as he takes over the role from his father. The Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting the supreme leader, announced the decision after a decisive vote.

The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the hope that Mojtaba’s leadership will guide Iran towards peace and stability. President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his good wishes, expressing hope for regional stability amid ongoing tensions.

Looking ahead, the strengthened ties between Pakistan and Iran are expected to foster cooperation in various sectors, benefiting both countries. The geopolitical landscape in the region may evolve as both nations work closely under the new Iranian leadership.
