India Supports UNSC Resolution Condemning Iran's Actions

India has taken a significant step in international diplomacy by co-sponsoring a UNSC resolution condemning Iran’s aggressive actions against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan. The resolution, adopted on March 11, 2026, with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from China and Russia, demands an immediate cessation of all Iranian attacks.

The resolution, led by Bahrain and supported by over 130 nations including major powers like the United States and the United Kingdom, reaffirms the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the affected nations. It strongly condemns Iran’s actions as egregious breaches of international law and a serious threat to peace and security.

The Security Council’s decision comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz—a critical maritime route—adding to the geopolitical strain. The resolution emphasizes the importance of respecting navigational rights and freedoms under international law, allowing member states to defend their vessels from provocations.

U.S. Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mike Waltz, highlighted the resolution as a unified global stance against Iran’s actions, criticizing Tehran’s targeting of civilians and infrastructure. In response, Iran’s Ambassador to the U.N., Amir Saeid Iravani, denounced the resolution as unjust and warned of its implications for other sovereign states.

As the international community watches closely, the resolution marks a pivotal moment in addressing the ongoing conflict. The coming weeks may see further diplomatic efforts or escalations, as nations navigate the complex geopolitical landscape.
