Global leaders have recognized Pakistan’s critical role in mediating a Iran-US Ceasefire, achieved just before President Donald Trump’s deadline. The agreement marks a significant diplomatic success for Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.

President Trump announced the two-week ceasefire on his platform, Social Truth, following discussions with Pakistan’s leadership. This decision reflects a dramatic shift from his earlier warning of severe consequences if demands were unmet by the April 8 deadline.

In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced via social media that both Iran and the US, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire, including in Lebanon. He invited delegations to Islamabad on April 10, 2026, for further negotiations towards a comprehensive settlement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude towards Pakistan for its mediation efforts, emphasizing the importance of halting attacks to cease defensive operations. The US has also shown willingness to negotiate based on a 15-point proposal.

Leaders from the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia, among others, have praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. The ceasefire is seen as a step towards lasting peace in the Middle East, with further talks scheduled in Islamabad.
