Modi to Visit Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand in Indo-Pacific Push
Modi to visit Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand next week in a three-nation diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s political, economic and strategic engagement across the Indo-Pacific.
According to Reuters, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin the trip in Indonesia on Monday before travelling to Australia and then New Zealand, where he is expected to arrive in Auckland on July 10. The visit comes as India continues to expand its regional partnerships through trade, investment, security and people-to-people ties.
In Indonesia, Modi is expected to meet President Prabowo Subianto. The visit will likely focus on regional cooperation, maritime issues and economic engagement between two major Asian economies. Indonesia remains central to India’s wider outreach to Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific.
PM Modi Three-Nation Visit Includes Australia and New Zealand
The PM Modi three-nation visit will also include Australia, where he is set to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and engage with business leaders. India and Australia have developed closer ties in recent years through trade, education, migration and strategic cooperation, including shared concerns over maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.
The final leg of the tour will take Modi to New Zealand. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said Modi’s visit would be historic, as it would be the first visit to the country by an Indian prime minister in 40 years. Modi is scheduled to arrive in Auckland on July 10 and depart on July 11.
The Modi New Zealand visit comes after the signing of the India New Zealand FTA in April. The agreement is expected to reduce or eliminate tariffs on 95 percent of New Zealand’s exports to India once fully implemented. From day one, 57 percent of New Zealand’s exports will be tariff-free.
Luxon said discussions with Modi would cover trade and investment, maritime security, education, technology, tourism, sport and global issues. The two leaders are also expected to highlight the Indian diaspora in New Zealand, which forms a significant part of the country’s social and economic landscape.
Overall, Modi’s visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand signals India’s effort to deepen ties with key Indo-Pacific partners. The tour combines trade diplomacy with strategic outreach at a time when regional cooperation, supply chains and maritime security remain major priorities for governments across the region.
