The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on July 4, 2025, addressing the ongoing Rohingya crisis, urging an end to impunity in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Bangladesh, hosting over 1.3 million Rohingya refugees, renewed its plea for international cooperation to resolve the humanitarian crisis. Since November 2023, approximately 180,000 additional Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh, exacerbating pressures on local resources, according to UNHCR data.

The resolution, passed by consensus at the 59th session in Geneva, emphasizes inclusive governance in Rakhine and the need for equitable burden-sharing to support Rohingya refugees. Bangladesh’s Ambassador Ariful Islam highlighted the upcoming High-Level Conference on the Rohingya in New York, scheduled for September 2025, as a key opportunity for actionable outcomes to ensure safe, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation.

Despite global efforts, funding for Rohingya humanitarian aid remains critically low, with only 21% of the required $934 million secured in 2025, impacting access to food, healthcare, and education for refugees in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char. Posts on X reflect growing concern over the crisis, with calls for sustained global attention to prevent further deterioration of conditions in refugee camps.
