Pakistan and China have initiated a series of joint vocational training programs as part of the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These programs focus on equipping Pakistani youth with skills in high-demand fields such as artificial intelligence, construction engineering, agriculture, and hospitality management. The effort aims to prepare a skilled workforce to support CPEC’s industrial and economic projects while fostering job opportunities for young Pakistanis.
The initiative, driven by the China-Pakistan TVET-Industrial Center of Excellence (CPTICE), follows a high-level visit by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to China from July 6 to 12, 2025. Discussions during the visit emphasized collaboration in technical and vocational education to meet global standards. Agreements were also reached to develop joint curricula and strengthen industry-academia linkages, ensuring training aligns with market needs.
Additionally, steps are underway to establish mutual recognition of vocational certifications with countries like Saudi Arabia and Oman, enhancing the global employability of Pakistani trainees. The programs prioritize inclusivity, with plans to integrate women into economic zones through dedicated training and support facilities like vocational centers. This aligns with CPEC’s broader focus on sustainable development and community empowerment, particularly in regions like Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Recent posts on X highlight public enthusiasm for these programs, noting their potential to boost Pakistan’s workforce capabilities and deepen bilateral ties with China. The training initiatives are expected to open new employment avenues and contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth by addressing skill gaps in key sectors.
