Bangladesh Approves Emergency diesel Import- 300,000 metric tons

Bangladesh Approves Emergency diesel Import: On March 27, 2026, Bangladesh’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved emergency diesel import proposals to address the country’s urgent fuel needs amid ongoing Middle East tensions. The decision was made during a virtual meeting chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The committee sanctioned the procurement of 100,000 metric tons of EN590 (10 PPM) diesel from AP Energy Investments Limited and 200,000 metric tons of EN590 Euro-5 (10 PPM) diesel from Superstar International (Group) Limited. These purchases will be conducted through direct international procurement to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply.

This strategic move comes in response to geopolitical instability in the Middle East, which has affected global oil markets. The Finance Ministry emphasized the necessity of maintaining economic stability and meeting the country’s growing energy demands.

Historically, Bangladesh has relied on imported fuel to sustain its energy needs. The current situation underscores the importance of diversifying energy sources and securing reliable partners for fuel imports.

Looking forward, the government is expected to continue monitoring the global situation closely, with further meetings anticipated to discuss long-term energy strategies.
