On April 9, 2026, Bangladesh’s Textiles and Jute Minister, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, announced that the nation has expanded its export of jute goods to 138 countries and raw jute to 30 countries during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 fiscal years.
In response to a parliamentary inquiry by Khulna-5 lawmaker Mohammad Ali Asgar, Minister Muktadir provided a detailed account of the sector’s export performance. He highlighted that Bangladesh’s raw jute exports reached major markets such as China, Iran, Spain, Belgium, the USA, the UK, Italy, Turkey, and several others.
The minister revealed that raw jute exports amounted to 42,039 metric tons in the 2024-25 financial year, while the volume for the 2025-26 fiscal year, from July to February, was recorded at 22,850 metric tons.
Regarding jute products, exports reached 7,51,739 metric tons in the 2024-25 financial year, with a recorded volume of 4,09,366 metric tons from July to February in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Major destinations included China, the USA, the UK, Italy, and others.
Bangladesh’s jute industry has historically been a significant contributor to its economy, providing employment and revenue. With the increasing global demand for eco-friendly products, the country’s jute sector is poised for further growth. Future projections suggest continued expansion into new markets, bolstered by government support and strategic partnerships.
