Bangladesh Health Cooperation: On March 2, 2026, Bangladesh’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, called for increased collaboration with China in the health sector. During a meeting at the Health Ministry with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, he emphasized the need for expanded cooperation.
Minister Hossain praised China’s ongoing support and expressed the necessity for additional assistance in supplying diagnostic kits and medical equipment. He also highlighted the importance of accommodating Bangladeshi physicians and researchers at Bangladesh Medical University.
The minister reiterated the hope that China would fulfill its commitment to assist in constructing a proposed 1,000-bed hospital. Ambassador Yao assured that China is ready to support this initiative, whether the facility is general or specialized.
The meeting also included State Minister for Health Dr. MA Muhit, Health Secretary Khorshed Alam, and Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng. Ambassador Yao noted China’s past contributions, including sending medical teams during emergencies and providing equipment to a robotic rehabilitation center.
State Minister Dr. Muhit suggested that the hospital be established in northern Bangladesh, addressing the region’s underdevelopment. The meeting concluded with optimism for future cooperation and development in Bangladesh’s health sector.
