BNP Leader Files Defamation Case Against Sarjis

Gazipur, 12 August 2025 — A local BNP leader has lodged a defamation case against Sarjis Alam, the northern region chief organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly spreading false claims that linked BNP to the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin  .

Tanvir Siraj, president of BNP’s Basan Thana unit, filed the case around midday at the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court-2, seeking compensation for damage to the party’s reputation  . Judge Alamgir Al Mamun has taken cognisance and instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a probe.

Siraj emphasised that Tuhin was killed while recording a video of criminal activity—and that Sarjis, without knowing the facts, had spread misinformation on Facebook implicating BNP in the killing  . The Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner had already arrested nine suspects and confirmed there was no political involvement  .
