Boeing, the renowned U.S. aircraft manufacturer, is optimistic about receiving more orders for its Dreamliner aircraft in India, a market expected to witness significant growth. Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India and South Asia, expressed confidence in overcoming current challenges, including tariff issues between India and the U.S., while emphasizing the industrialization of Indian aerospace.
Currently, Air India operates 33 Dreamliners, including 26 legacy B787-8s and six B787-9s from Vistara. IndiGo has also leased Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways. Despite a tragic accident involving an Air India Dreamliner in June 2025, which resulted in 260 fatalities, Boeing remains committed to the Indian market.
Gupte noted that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is investigating the crash, and while Boeing is unable to comment on ongoing investigations, the company remains focused on future growth. Boeing delivered 14 B787s globally last year and anticipates continued robust demand.
The competition with Airbus is acknowledged as part of the industry dynamics. Boeing, with over 265 aircraft operating in India and sourcing over $1.25 billion annually from the country, is poised to expand its presence. Gupte highlighted the resilience of the aviation sector, noting that challenges like tariffs do not hinder long-term growth as societies advance and travel increases.
