The Chattogram-Dhaka pipeline, a 250-km lifeline for Bangladesh’s energy needs, is set to launch on August 16, 2025, easing the burden of costly fuel transport. After successful trial runs delivering 32,000 tonnes of diesel from Patenga to Godnail in Narayanganj, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) confirmed the pipeline’s readiness. This milestone promises to save Tk 200 crore annually and strengthen national energy security.
Benefits of Chattogram-Dhaka Pipeline
The pipeline, stretching from Chattogram’s Patenga to Narayanganj via Feni, Cumilla, Chandpur, and Munshiganj, replaces the slower, riskier river transport of diesel, which moved 13.44 lakh tonnes in FY 2024-25. Capable of carrying 350 tonnes per hour and holding a 27,000-tonne reserve, it offers faster, safer delivery. Many calling it a game-changer for reducing fuel costs, though some worry about delays in similar projects, like the idle Single Point Mooring pipeline.
Managed by the new Pipeline Transmission Company Limited (PTCPLC), the project, costing Tk 3,171.85 crore, marks a leap toward efficiency. “This pipeline is a dream realized for our people,” said BPC Chairman Md Amin Ul Ahsan, echoing the hope of millions. As Bangladesh grapples with economic pressures, the Chattogram-Dhaka pipeline shines as a beacon of progress.
