Islamabad, 12 August 2025 — Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, today challenged the Lahore High Court’s issuance of what he called “final observations” in bail proceedings concerning former PM Imran Khan’s petitions in eight May 9 bail cases — civic unrest following his arrest in 2023. The Supreme Court bench, also including Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, did not comment on whether those observations were legally sound at this stage.

Afridi underscored that discussing such conclusions could prejudice one side or the other and said the court will refrain from doing so — for now. He urged both the prosecution and the defence to prepare on legal questions for the next hearing. A notice was issued to the Punjab government, and proceedings have been adjourned until 19 August 2025 .
