Romania has proposed opening its Constanța port — the largest on the Black Sea — to serve as a strategic trade gateway for Pakistani exports to Europe, offering access via the Danube River and Black Sea corridors.

This development was discussed during a recent meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu, where both sides explored deeper cooperation in trade, energy, defence, logistics, and culture.

Details about Trade Through Constanta Port

The initiative was welcomed by Islamabad as a promising opportunity to diversify export routes and improve logistics costs for Pakistani businesses. With Constanța Port already integrated into Pan-European transport networks, the move could significantly reduce transit time for goods bound for Central and Eastern Europe.

Talks also touched on agriculture and livestock trade (particularly meat exports), and expanding collaboration in pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, and industrial goods like fans.

Romania additionally offered support for Pakistan’s transition to green energy, sharing its expertise in solar and wind power technologies.

On the tech front, Ambassador Stoenescu praised the rapid growth of Pakistan’s IT industry and expressed interest in facilitating exchanges between Romanian and Pakistani professionals. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to lower tariff and non-tariff barriers, offering incentives for Romanian companies to enter the Pakistani market via joint ventures.

The conversation concluded with an emphasis on strengthening cultural diplomacy and improving visa facilitation to encourage people-to-people ties.

This proposal, if operationalized, could mark a strategic shift in Pakistan’s export connectivity, positioning Romania as a valuable partner in its economic integration with Europe.
