Dhaka, Kuala Lumpur Launch Joint Terrorism Investigation

Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, representing Bangladesh, has engaged with Malaysian authorities to address the recent arrests of Bangladeshi nationals in Malaysia on terrorism-related charges. During his visit to Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), Hossain reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to collaborating with Malaysia to investigate these allegations thoroughly. Malaysian officials have pledged to share information and provide access to support a transparent probe.

As a member of the ARF since 2006, Bangladesh co-chairs the forum’s priority areas of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime, alongside Disaster Relief. This partnership reflects Dhaka’s strong stance against extremism, with authorities maintaining a zero-tolerance policy. The joint investigation seeks to confirm the identities of the detained individuals and clarify the charges, ensuring fairness and accountability.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has formally requested details from Malaysian authorities, signaling a coordinated effort to address the issue. This collaboration strengthens diplomatic and security ties between the two nations, fostering effective measures against transnational crime in the Asia-Pacific region.
