On June 27, 2025, leftist political groups in Bangladesh, led by the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and the Left Democratic Alliance, launched a two-day road march from Dhaka to Chittagong. Starting at 9 AM from the National Press Club in Dhaka, the march protests the proposed humanitarian corridor in Myanmar’s Rakhine state and the leasing of Chittagong Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal to foreign entities. The initiative also opposes the introduction of Starlink satellite internet services in Bangladesh, citing concerns over national sovereignty.

CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince stated that the march aims to resist foreign influence in Bangladesh’s strategic assets, particularly highlighting the risks of geopolitical entanglement due to Western pressure on the Rakhine corridor. The event, concluding on June 28, has garnered support from various political and cultural groups, including the Democratic Cultural Alliance.

Recent discussions on X reflect public apprehension about foreign involvement in Bangladesh’s infrastructure, with some users emphasizing the need to protect national interests. Others noted the broader context of political unrest, including minority rights concerns and upcoming elections, which add complexity to the march’s objectives.

The road march underscores ongoing debates about Bangladesh’s economic and geopolitical policies as the nation prepares for its 2026 elections.
