Students protesting on Dhaka Rail Blockade

Dhaka rail blockade disrupted train services to northern Bangladesh today as Rabindra University students staged a protest at Ullapara rail gate in Sirajganj. The blockade began around 9:00 AM, halting the movement of several trains, including the Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express and the Dhaka-bound Silk City Express.

Student Demands on the Dhaka Rail Blockade

The students are demanding the approval of the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the construction of the university’s permanent campus. Their movement, which started on July 26 with a boycott of academic activities, has escalated to include road and rail blockades.

Authorities confirmed that the blockade has caused significant delays, with multiple trains affected. Pakshey Divisional Railway Transportation Officer Hasina Khatun stated that the schedules of Ekota Express, Rangpur Express, and Chilahati Express were also delayed due to the railway blockade.

Ongoing Protest

The students have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the student body and the authorities over the university’s infrastructure development.
