On July 21, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 jet crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area, killing 32 people, including 25 children, and injuring over 160, many with severe burns. The incident, linked to mechanical failure, has left Dhaka’s medical facilities, particularly the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, struggling to cope with the influx of patients.
In response, nations worldwide have stepped up to provide urgent medical assistance. India has dispatched a team of burn specialists, nurses, and advanced medical supplies, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering further support. China has committed to sending burn treatment experts, while Japan is exploring options to provide similar aid. Singapore General Hospital has sent a medical team, including a senior consultant, to assist with treatment. Kuwait and the Vatican have also expressed condolences, with Pope Leo praying for the victims and their families.
As of July 22, 68 patients remain hospitalized, with the Bangladeshi government covering treatment costs and deploying the army to secure medical facilities. Social media reflects gratitude for global aid but also growing calls for a transparent investigation into the crash’s cause. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has declared a national day of mourning and promised a thorough probe to prevent future tragedies.
