EU Election Observers: The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) is closely monitoring Bangladesh’s national election and referendum, marking a significant day for the country’s democracy. Chief EU Election Observer Ivars Ijabs emphasized the importance of these events during his visit to Siddheswari Girls’ College in Dhaka on February 12, 2026.
Ijabs expressed optimism for participatory and credible elections, underscoring the EU’s commitment to transparency. He announced plans to continue observing throughout the day, including vote counting processes, and promised further updates following his visit to Curzon Hall at Dhaka University.
With 90 short-term observers deployed across all 64 administrative districts, the EU EOM aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the electoral process. These observers are strategically positioned in cities, towns, and villages, reporting on polling activities and ensuring a fair election environment.
This deployment of 200 observers nationwide underscores the EU’s dedication to supporting democratic processes in Bangladesh. The observers’ findings will be crucial in evaluating the integrity and credibility of these historic elections.
