India-EU Aviation Agreement: India and the European Union have finalized a significant arrangement to bolster industrial aviation production, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative and aligning with EU standards. This includes the assembly of Airbus H125 helicopters in Karnataka, with production slated to begin in 2027.

The arrangement follows the India-EU Summit in January, where civil aviation safety emerged as a critical focus. EU Ambassador Herve Delphin emphasized the deal as a concrete example of bilateral industrial cooperation aligned with the EU’s safety standards, facilitating global aircraft product delivery.

Airbus Helicopters and Tata Advanced Systems Limited have established a final assembly line in Vemagal, Karnataka, inaugurated in February. This facility will manufacture and export the H125 single-engine helicopter, with initial deliveries anticipated in 2027.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) signed the arrangement on March 23, ahead of the EU-South Asia Aviation Partnership Project workshop in New Delhi from March 24-26. The agreement aims to consolidate cooperation to ensure high civil aviation safety standards.

The workshop, organized by EASA with DGCA and supported by ATR, gathered aviation authorities, airlines, and industry representatives from the region. It focused on strengthening collaboration and sharing operational experience to enhance safety and performance.

The EU and India also adopted a new strategic joint agenda in January to work at scale and speed for mutual interests. This partnership reflects the EU’s broader commitment to high aviation safety standards and sustainable sector development, reinforcing regulatory cooperation.
