India is preparing to send a trade delegation to the United States for continued negotiations on a potential bilateral trade agreement. The visit comes as part of efforts to push forward India US trade talks and settle remaining disputes over tariffs on key goods including steel, auto components, and farm products.

Talks between both sides have been ongoing, but key sticking points remain — particularly around agriculture. India is seeking relief on high U.S. tariffs, especially on its labor-heavy export sectors like textiles and leather, while remaining firm on protecting its domestic farming and dairy industries. U.S. negotiators, on the other hand, are pressing for greater access to India’s agricultural markets.

Indian officials say the delegation’s visit will focus on narrowing the gap between both sides, with the goal of concluding the first phase of a deal by fall 2025. India has made it clear any agreement must align with national interests and support long-term economic growth.

The India US trade talks are expected to continue through both in-person meetings and virtual discussions, with both governments aiming to build momentum ahead of any formal announcements later this year.
