India Visa Extension: On March 13, 2026, India announced a significant policy shift by extending visas for foreign nationals affected by the ongoing Middle East conflict. The Consulate General of India in Dubai declared that all types of visas, including e-visas, would receive a 30-day extension.
The Indian government also waived penalties for any overstays by foreign nationals impacted by the conflict, effective from February 28, 2026. This decision comes as hostilities between the US and Iran escalate, affecting global travel and security.
In a public statement, the Consulate emphasized that the visa extensions would be processed by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, exit permits and temporary landing permits would be provided free of charge to stranded individuals.
The current Middle East crisis began with the US-Israel attack on Iran, leading to retaliatory strikes by Tehran on US bases and oil facilities. This has created widespread disruption, prompting India to take measures to assist foreign nationals within its borders.
Looking ahead, India’s proactive stance in offering visa relief highlights its commitment to international cooperation during crises. The situation remains fluid, with further developments expected as diplomatic efforts continue.
