Bangladesh is set to hold its 13th Jatiya Sangsad Polls on February 12, 2026, with a total of 2,028 candidates contesting for 299 parliamentary seats. This election sees participation from 50 political parties and independent candidates. Notably, 83 of the candidates are women, as confirmed by Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.

The Sherpur-3 constituency will not participate in this election due to the unfortunate demise of a candidate. Out of the total candidates, 1,755 are representing political parties, while 273 are independents. Among the women, 63 are affiliated with political parties, and 20 are contesting independently. Male candidates include 1,692 from parties and 253 independents.

Voting will occur from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM using transparent ballot boxes. The Election Commission has assured that voters present within polling centers by closing time will be allowed to cast their votes. This election is crucial for Bangladesh’s democratic process, as it determines the composition of the national parliament.

The political landscape of Bangladesh has been shaped by previous elections and political agreements. As the nation prepares for this significant democratic exercise, the focus remains on ensuring a fair and transparent voting process. The outcomes of these elections will influence future political strategies and governance in Bangladesh.
