The LPG vessel Apollo Ocean arrived at New Mangalore Port on March 25, 2026, amidst ongoing turmoil in West Asia that has severely disrupted global energy supply chains. The vessel docked at approximately 8 PM, carrying a substantial load of 16,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which began unloading the same night, as reported by Newsonair.

This delivery comes after a strategic rerouting of supply chains. Initially, the Indian LPG carrier Shivalik was expected to deliver part of its consignment directly to Mangaluru. However, due to the complexities arising from the conflict, Shivalik discharged its entire load at Gujarat’s Mundra port. The LPG was subsequently transferred to Karnataka via Apollo Ocean, ensuring continuity in supply.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing the severe impact of the West Asia conflict on global energy routes and its direct implications for India’s economy. He highlighted the substantial risks to essential commodities, including petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers, due to the conflict’s interference with shipping lanes.

The Prime Minister condemned any attempts by Iran to obstruct maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit for global oil shipments. He assured that India has been actively engaging with international stakeholders to facilitate the safe passage of Indian vessels through the affected areas.

With nearly ten million Indians residing in Gulf countries, the geopolitical situation remains a priority for the Indian government. The conflict’s impact on commercial shipping lanes poses a significant threat to the livelihoods and safety of Indian nationals in the region.
