K-Electric, Karachi’s sole electricity provider, has reappointed Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi as its Chief Executive Officer, effective July 30, 2025. The decision was made during a board meeting held on July 7, according to an official company statement. Alvi, who has served as CEO since 2018, has been with the organization since 2008, previously holding key roles including Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury.
His reappointment comes amid ongoing scrutiny of K-Electric’s performance, particularly concerning service disruptions during monsoon seasons. While Alvi has led infrastructure investments and digital initiatives—with claims that 70% of Karachi is now exempt from load shedding—public opinion remains divided. Posts on X reflect both praise for modernization efforts and frustration over continued outages and past safety concerns, including a high-profile case heard in the Sindh High Court.
Alvi’s renewed term signals continuity in K-Electric’s approach to addressing electricity theft, improving customer service, and upgrading outdated systems. His leadership will remain under watch as the company navigates rising demand, regulatory pressure, and public accountability.
