A senior leader from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has firmly rejected rumors suggesting that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif seeking presidency, labeling such claims as baseless “table stories.” The speculation, which surfaced recently, hinted at a potential resignation by President Asif Ali Zardari, prompting suggestions that Sharif might be positioning himself for the role. However, PML-N Senator Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui, speaking on a local television program, clarified that Sharif has no intention of pursuing the presidency and that no discussions within the party have supported such a move.
Rumors about Nawaz Sharif Seeking Presidency
The rumors also tied into alleged political maneuvers, including claims of meetings with other political figures, which Siddiqui dismissed as fabricated. He emphasized the stability of the PML-N’s coalition with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), noting that Zardari has fulfilled his constitutional duties without creating issues for the government. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi echoed this sentiment, condemning the speculation as part of a malicious campaign targeting key political leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership.
Recent posts on X have reflected mixed public sentiments, with some users questioning the credibility of these rumors while others speculated about behind-the-scenes political deals. The PML-N’s focus, according to party insiders, remains on governance and upcoming Senate elections, with no plans to disrupt the current political framework. The party has maintained that its alliance with the PPP is strong, and there is no basis for claims of discord or attempts to alter the presidency.
