The National Citizen Party (NCP) launched its month-long “July March to Build the Nation” on July 1, 2025, starting with a visit to the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayed in Rangpur, Bangladesh. This initiative marks the first anniversary of the 2024 July uprising, a significant movement that led to the fall of the Awami League government. The march, spanning all 64 districts, aims to honor the sacrifices of those who lost their lives and to advocate for justice, reform, and a new constitution.
Led by NCP Convenor Nahid Islam, the party paid tribute to Abu Sayed, a martyr of the uprising, whose death on July 16, 2024, became a turning point for the movement. The NCP plans to observe July 16 as “Anti-Discrimination Martyrs’ Day” and August 5 as “People’s Liberation Day” to commemorate the uprising’s milestones. A key event includes a discussion at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center with political parties and families affected by the uprising.
The campaign will culminate on August 3, 2025, with the announcement of the “July Declaration” at the Shaheed Minar, outlining the NCP’s vision for a reformed Bangladesh. Posts on X reflect public engagement, noting the emotional weight of the march’s start at Abu Sayed’s grave and its call for systemic change. The NCP’s efforts highlight a commitment to remembering the uprising’s legacy while pushing for a more equitable future.
