EAEU-Pak Discuss Trade Agreement: On April 7, 2026, a significant meeting took place between Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce, and Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The discussion, held via videoconference, focused on exploring a potential trade agreement between Pakistan and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Slepnev emphasized the Unions’s commitment to fostering mutually beneficial relations with South Asian countries, identifying Pakistan as a promising partner. He highlighted the dynamic growth of trade between the Eurasian Economic Union and Pakistan, noting its substantial potential for further expansion.
Minister Jam Kamal Khan expressed Pakistan’s interest in enhancing cooperation with the Union, viewing it not only as a trade opportunity but also as a strategic partnership in logistics, energy cooperation, digital trade, industrial collaboration, and supply chain integration. He stated, “We support the initiation of structured dialogue mechanisms with the Eurasian Economic Commission aimed at exploring a trade agreement, subject to the outcome of the joint feasibility study.”
Pakistan reaffirmed its readiness to engage constructively with the Union and its member states to fully unlock the potential of trade and investment cooperation. Both parties acknowledged the positive prospects for deepening trade and economic ties. To assess the economic implications and feasibility of a preferential trade regime, they agreed to establish a joint feasibility study group, adhering to respective legal procedures.
This initiative marks a pivotal step in strengthening Pakistan’s economic ties with the Union, potentially leading to significant advancements in trade relations. The outcome of the feasibility study will be crucial in determining the next steps for a formal trade agreement.
