Pakistan Army Chief: India Turning to Proxy War After Clear Defeat

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, accused India of escalating proxy warfare following a significant military setback in a recent conflict. Speaking at the 271st Corps Commanders’ Conference in Rawalpindi on July 10, 2025, Munir claimed India is using groups like Fitna Al Khawarij and Fitna Al Hindustan to destabilize Pakistan after its defeat in direct confrontations, particularly post-Pahalgam incident in May 2025. The conflict, marked by Indian airstrikes and a week-long missile exchange, ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

Munir criticized India’s attempts to involve third parties, calling it a tactic to mask its strategic failures and promote bloc politics. He highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements, including visits to Iran, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, as well as a notable trip to the U.S., where he presented Pakistan’s perspective on regional security. The military leadership vowed to counter Indian-backed proxies decisively, emphasizing the sacrifices of Pakistani soldiers in recent terror attacks.

The conference also acknowledged strengthened coordination among Pakistan’s army, navy, and air force, with Munir expressing confidence in the military’s readiness to tackle evolving threats. Pakistan’s narrative of India’s alleged proxy tactics has sparked discussions, with no immediate response from New Delhi, underscoring ongoing tensions in the region.
