In 2025, approximately 74,000 residents from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) benefited from free healthcare treatment under the provincial Sehat Card Plus (SCP) scheme, primarily in Punjab. The KP government paid Rs3.452 billion through the State Life Insurance Corporation to cover these expenses.

The data indicates that Punjab was the largest beneficiary, receiving Rs1.982 billion for treating over 40,000 KP residents. The SCP programme facilitated treatment for KP residents living outside the province due to employment or business.

A total of 804 hospitals across Pakistan are empanelled to provide treatment to KP residents, with Punjab hosting 478 of these facilities. The federal capital’s hospitals earned Rs1.123 billion by treating 23,467 patients, while Sindh treated 8,132 patients for Rs295 billion.

The initiative allows KP residents to access healthcare services outside their home province, offering treatments for various medical conditions. Since February 2022, 99 liver transplants have been conducted under the scheme, with significant surgeries in Islamabad and Lahore.

Since its inception, the SCP has provided Rs135 billion in free diagnostic care and treatment to nearly 5 million patients from KP. The programme continues to expand, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility for KP residents nationwide.
