Pakistan-Philippines Trade: Pakistan and the Philippines have engaged in significant discussions to enhance trade and investment cooperation, focusing on agriculture, energy, and minerals. These discussions took place in Manila on February 20, 2026, during the second session of the Pakistan–Philippines Joint Economic Commission.
The talks were co-chaired by Pakistan’s Secretary of Economic Affairs, Muhammad Humair Karim, and the Philippines’ Undersecretary for International Trade, Allan B. Gepty. Both sides considered organizing trade exhibitions and a dedicated business forum to boost commercial links, and they reviewed updating the bilateral Double Taxation Agreement to align it with modern standards.
Pakistan proposed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the investment boards of the two countries and discussed establishing a joint working group on investment. This initiative aims to facilitate collaboration and greater private sector participation, reviving the Pakistan–Philippines Joint Business Council.
Export opportunities in agricultural commodities and halal-certified products were highlighted, alongside potential cooperation in seed development and irrigation initiatives. The discussions also covered collaboration in energy and minerals, particularly in upstream exploration and the exchange of mining technology.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from both countries, including Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Asma Rabbani, and the Philippine Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Emmanuel Fernandez, concluded with an emphasis on creating a predictable and efficient visa regime to facilitate business travel. Future meetings are expected to further solidify these initiatives.
