Pakistan Pushes for Modern Governance and Reform

Pakistan’s government is taking bold steps to overhaul its outdated administrative framework, aiming to create a modern, efficient, and digital governance system. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently emphasized that economic progress hinges on aligning federal ministries with contemporary demands. During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, he urged officials to prioritize reforms that enhance ministry performance and integrate expert talent into key sectors.

A specialized committee has been established to drive this transformation. Its mandate includes recruiting top-tier professionals, streamlining ministry operations, and implementing governance models that reflect global standards. The Ministry of Energy set a strong example, having introduced reforms that significantly reduced financial losses, saving billions for the national treasury. These efforts, led by Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, were praised as a blueprint for other ministries to emulate.

The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s abundant resources and talented youth as critical assets for national growth. He stressed the need for innovative governance approaches, supported by international expertise, to replace systems that have remained unchanged for decades. The committee will also focus on restructuring other ministries, ensuring they adopt efficient practices and leverage cutting-edge expertise.

On a related note, in his World Population Day message, the prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare and family planning. The goal is to empower individuals with informed choices, fostering dignity and autonomy while strengthening systems for sustainable development.

These initiatives signal a broader vision to “make one on your own” by building a governance model that is responsive, forward-thinking, and capable of driving Pakistan’s economic and social progress.
