On January 26, 2026, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to low-carbon growth, emphasizing the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution and National Climate Change Policy. This commitment aims to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.

Marking the International Day of Clean Energy, President Zardari highlighted the significance of clean, affordable, and sustainable energy in fostering inclusive development and energy security. He underscored Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, noting that the government prioritizes the transition to clean energy within its climate agenda.

According to the President Secretariat Media Wing, Pakistan’s commitments to the UNFCCC include achieving 30% electric vehicle usage by 2030. Zardari addressed the severe impact of air pollution, which annually disrupts transportation and affects public health, emphasizing the social and economic costs of polluted air.

Zardari noted that clean and renewable sources currently make up 35% of Pakistan’s energy mix. The government focuses on energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainable resource management to advance Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 13. Looking forward, Pakistan aims to strengthen its climate resilience and meet international environmental standards.
