Pakistan to Launch Advanced Remote Sensing Satellite in 2025

Pakistan is set to launch its new advanced Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS) on July 31, 2025, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China, according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). The move marks a major leap forward in Pakistan’s efforts to boost its space-based data capabilities.

Details of Advanced Remote Sensing Satellite

Equipped with high-resolution imaging technology, the satellite will support key sectors like precision agriculture, urban planning, climate monitoring, and disaster response. It will help track environmental issues such as glacial melt, deforestation, and offer early warnings for floods, earthquakes, and landslides.

The satellite is also expected to contribute significantly to infrastructure development and monitoring for large-scale projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This launch builds on previous space achievements:

  • In 2018, Pakistan launched PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A.
  • In January 2025, it launched its indigenously developed Electro-Optical Satellite (EO-1).
  • In 2024, PakSat-MM1 helped expand internet access in remote areas.
  • The iCube Qamar mission, built by Pakistani students, sent back stunning lunar images.

The 2025 PRSS launch aligns with SUPARCO’s Vision 2047 and Pakistan’s National Space Policy, and strengthens the strategic space collaboration between Pakistan and China, which began with PakSat-1R in 2011.
