Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in strategic discussions with World Bank Group President Ajay Pal Singh Banga in Islamabad on February 2, 2026. This meeting marked Banga’s first official visit to Pakistan as World Bank President, part of his four-day tour beginning February 1.

During his visit, Banga is set to meet other key officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb. Talks are centered on economic reforms, development cooperation, and regional projects.

Prime Minister Sharif praised the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank, highlighting the ten-year Country Partnership Framework as a model for cooperative initiatives. He acknowledged Banga’s leadership in enhancing the World Bank’s role as a development partner.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s dedication to a comprehensive reform program aimed at achieving sustainable economic stability. He outlined the World Bank’s support in strengthening infrastructure, digital development, and private sector investment.

Both leaders stressed the importance of rapid implementation of aligned priorities and effective monitoring to ensure timely results. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to close collaboration over the next decade, aiming for effective and sustainable development programs in Pakistan.
