Pakistan’s Exports to North America Show Strong Growth

Pakistan’s merchandise exports to North America have risen by 9.76% in the first eight months of fiscal year 2025, reaching $4.273 billion compared to $3.893 billion in the same period last year, according to data from the State Bank of Pakistan. The United States accounted for 94% of these exports, with shipments increasing by 10.47% to $4.009 billion from $3.629 billion. This growth, driven primarily by textiles and clothing, marks a recovery after a decline in FY24, when exports to the region fell by 8.42% to $5.432 billion from $5.93 billion in FY23.

The rebound is attributed to increased demand for Pakistani textiles in the US, supported by a slowdown in exports from competitors like Bangladesh and Vietnam. Exports to Canada, however, showed only marginal growth, rising by 0.56% to $262.676 million from $264.156 million in the same period. Despite this uptick, full-year exports to Canada in FY24 dropped by 8.77% to $389.164 million from $426.575 million in FY23.

Imports from North America to Pakistan also grew, increasing by 29.41% to $1.663 billion in the first eight months of FY25, compared to $1.285 billion the previous year. This trade dynamic underscores the US as Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the Americas, with key export products including cotton-based apparel, bed linens, and knitwear. The growth aligns with Pakistan’s broader export target of $40 billion by the end of 2025, supported by efforts to diversify markets and strengthen trade ties.
