The PIA privatisation has entered a more active phase, with one of the shortlisted bidder companies beginning a formal evaluation of the airline’s operations this Thursday in Karachi.

According to sources, the visiting company has started inspecting PIA aircraft and reviewing essential airline records at the PIA head office. The delegation will also tour critical facilities on Friday as part of its due diligence.

Two additional shortlisted bidders are expected to visit PIA installations next week. These visits are part of the broader privatisation process, initiated after the Privatisation Commission Board, chaired by Muhammad Ali, advisor to the Prime Minister on Privatisation, cleared four qualified bidders during its 237th meeting.

The Cabinet Committee on PIA Privatisation has also greenlit the transaction structure for PIA and associated assets, including a review underway for the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, which remains one of PIA’s key foreign holdings.

The government is offering 51% to 100% ownership, including management control of PIA, aiming to attract credible investors capable of turning around the struggling airline. All shortlisted companies have access to a virtual data room to facilitate deep analysis of the carrier’s assets and financials.

The due diligence period will span approximately two months, after which final bids are expected by Q4 of 2025.
